Gymnastics and Girl Scouts Christmas

Hi Everyone!I'm behind in my email pictures because I've been busy getting ready for Christmas. And I STILL haven't sent out our Christmas cards. They're coming SOON!

The highlight last weekend was a gymnastics competition. We were so proud of how confidently both Tia and Sara completed their routines. Sara won medals (silver and bronze) in two of her events, and Tia tied with a friend for the overall prize in her group! (four medals but I think the stuffed animal they gave each overall winner was an even more treasured prize. :-)

Saturday their Girl Scout troop hosted a christmas party for about 40 children from a local orphanage. The scouts and orphans teamed up for making gingerbread houses for each orphans to take home. They had a pizza party, sang carols, and of course, Santa came! He handed out a present box to each orphan complete with clothes, school supplies, and a small toy. The Girlscouts had each contributed five dollars of money they had earned themselves toward the gifts.

When Quyen asked them afterwards if Santa had brought anything for them, Their immediate response was "No Daddy, Christmas is about GIVING. not getting presents!

" This weekend we celebrated our own invented holiday, "Thanksmas"! Our friend, Steve, is Australian so doesn't normally celebrate Thanksgiving, and his Indonesian wife, Lila, is Christian but didn't grown up celebrating Christmas much either, but we've all enjoyed getting together to celebrate our own "Thanksmas" tradition every year. They hosted this year with a wonderful dinner of turkey, ham, and all the trimmings. The kids frosted sugar cookies and we all enjoyed lemon mirangue pie! Fun!
Hope all your holiday celebrations are wonderful! We miss you! Love, Paula
